summer hot, humid
kills desire of sweetness
flowers forgiveness
Â
falls decaying death
forgiveness dead leaves lifeless
blacken a gift heart
Â
winter freezing ice
a cold weapon forgiveness
to cut the giver
Â
spring new life begins
forgiveness lifeless, no seed
to plant, grow—never
Â
The bird of flame rises
From the ashes in my chest—
Ash of forgiveness
Never given.

Love this thoughtful, vulnerable poem. I remember when I was struggling some years back, and reading two books on forgiveness by Lewis Smedes and I started my journey in learning about all the “practical” self – healing reasons I needed to practice the art of forgiveness. Your metaphors and imagery in this poem are profound and perfect. Thank you.
