Bouquets of the Ramshackle

https://amanpan.com/category/eugis-prompts/

With ramshackle shards
Of heart, soul, self
Falling away like the browned petals
Of a long-wilted bouquet,
We create a riotous noise
In ramshackle attempts
To find some connection.

Lumbering, awkward attempts
At reaching out to touch once again,
To replace, to freshen
The brown wilted and missing parts
With new bouquets of spring
Whose stems sit in eternally
Fresh, clean waters.

We dream of a life lived
No longer ramshackle,
With no long-wilted bouquets
Of a past to haunt with falling petals,
But a life returning whole,
To move without noise
Through the world once again.

Buried

Can’t really say how it happened.

But it did.  All those years ago.

Some may say it’s a pity or a sin.

All I say is I survived.

It was the lava, really.

That’s at fault.  Yeah, maybe

me, since I did let it in.

Into my network of arteries and veins,

letting it flow until it coated

everything inside.

It cooled.

I turned to stone.

I walked in skin and could yet bleed.

But, sure enough, inside—

I was stone.

I felt nothing.

And that felt good—

To be cold as stone.

No longer part of the network of humanity

Though I walked in it—

How perfect it felt

to feel inhuman,

to feel nothing at all–

At least, for a little while.

Fractured Twilight

Walking in fractured twilight

Is the smoothest time of light and mind–

A wish made–

To braid reality, this curve of light, with sweetest memory

Thus, so entwined

One begins to hope,

Believing in miracles once again

To spite all fractures made of years.

When trying to respond to Eugenia’s prompt this week, this poem, which I posted a couple of years ago kept coming into my head, and no matter how I tried, it would not go away. In this reposting, it is my hope that it serves some purpose. Perhaps, someone will gather something from it.

A rabbit stilled,

Motionless, as if frozen

In the summer grass

Only her nose twitched, flared

The scent of wrongness–

A touch upon the air,

And she knew

Only flight carried safety

Flight, the right choice to make—

If she could only still move.

But she could stand only statue still

And standing so, the trap sprung

Steel teeth clamping down,

Slicing through skin,

Chewing through chunks of muscle

As she struggled,

Daring not to scream

As screams would bring the predators.

This she knew too well.

The trap now biting into bone,

Her struggles stopped.

Her panting calmed.

Her head rested upon the grass.

One eye looked to a cloudless sky.

She prayed for strength to chew

Through bone.

Eugi’s Causerie Weekly Prompt – Magic – May 20, 2021 – Eugi’s Causerie (amanpan.com)

Magic glistening

in moonstone skin carved of dreams–

softness of dawn’s glow.

Nerves crackle with life

as if the stars strike lightning–

gentle winds whisper.

The sky, arms wide, smiles,

coloring the west toward

magic sweeping us.

Eugi’s Weekly Prompt – Dance – April 22, 2021 – Eugi’s Causerie (amanpan.com)

My dance was escape

From the always too much vine

You are, crawling over the souls of others,

Choking them with tendrils of your love.

My dance, too strong for such tendrils,

Stepping the swirl patterns

Of aloneness,

Finds joy.

My dance, leaving colors of spring

In the wake of its rhythms,

Paints new life into me.

My dance, following no one,

Discovers love in its patterns,

Creating new steps of invitation

To be followed by my soul.

My dance, flaming and firing in warmth,

Burns away the coldness meant to kill.

A Witch Among the Willows

Sit among the willows,

drifting in ghostly silence,

each wrapped comforted

by misery’s blanket.

Except I am no longer,

listening to words

carefully scripted,

tumbling into deceit’s

delicious dishes

easily prepared

by your thin lips mouthing words

filled with ghost meaning.

Regurgitated regrets

bitter in the soul and heart–

I can tell you that.

A thing you would not

ever know, catalyst of misery,

your starring role.

Except–

tell-tale signs of age

now crackle through songs of your

sweet, deceitful voice,

makes harder to catch

victims snared in misery

of life trials made.

Stop floating among

the willows, thinking yourself

Calypso casting

spells of delicious

deceit, when you’ve aged into

Macbeth’s witch drifting

in the ghostly fog of ego.

In the fading light,

My hindsight schools, lectures, drills

My foresight

In how to take steps,

In how to look away,

In how to live hopeless,

In how to heal with saltwater dreams

Overflowing with hope.

Yet still with foresight

In how to guard,

My scars, my wounds,

My picked at scabs

In this

fading light of days

Unfilled,

Lived,

Cheered,

Flowering with dreams,

Left

Of life remaining.

Mystical Fields

Meet me in the field

Where heather sways with the wind

Through time we will live.

Life, never a friend,

Kept us from knowing true joy,

Meet me in the field,

Where loss is gaining

And grief blossoms into joy

Meet me where gold grows.
